Mouse Genomics Resource Laboratory (MGRL)

Tsuyoshi KOIDE

Associate Professor In Japan, we have launched and proceeded with research on mouse behavioral genetics, which had few researchers yet. While doing research, I always think that behavioral genetics is a very difficult discipline. While conducting research to find genes related to personality, the results obtained show that the combination of many genes is an important factor in determining personality. Through research, I learned again that the combination of genes that each person has is irreplaceable in determining his or her personality.

(post doc) I have a background in information science, where I did not do any experiments, but I was fortunate enough to be allowed to join a wet laboratory, where I am still doing dry analysis. I am interested in plants and animals related to human culture and history, and I would like to learn more about their population and evolutionary genetics. I am currently studying behavioral genetics.

(Student D3) There are many factors other than host genetics that influence the behaviours of an individual. Recent reports show that gut microbiota composition is a significant influencer of behaviour. So, in my present research work, I am trying to elucidate the role of gut microbiota on tameness behaviour.

(Student D1) Humans have domesticated a range of species under similar selection pressures. These domesticated animals serve as an important model to study evolutionary changes. One of the most common traits exhibited by these animals is tamed behavior. My work focuses on understanding the neurological basis underlying this tamed behavior in mice.
